Nutrition and Health

Between the extremes of optimal health and death from starvation or malnutrition there is an array of disease states that can be caused or alleviated by changes in diet. Deficiencies, excesses and imbalances in diet can produce negative impacts on health, which may lead to diseases such as scurvy, obesity or osteoporosis, as well as psychological and behavioral problems. A new survey from the American Dietetic Association shows that 80% of Americans believe that nutrition affects their health, but only four in ten are doing all they can to maintain a healthy diet. Understanding of nutrition information might be confused by technical terms. For example, some individuals may not know what recommended daily values mean or how to use them in dietary planning. Our program is designed to help participants understand the importance of nutrition and assist them with meal planning to maintain good health.
